Large Garbage Collection day returns on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
Before you clean out your garages, sheds and basements, take a look at these lists for what you can and can't put out. Please keep in mind that all the garbage you put out for collection must be bagged or placed in a container if possible (except for those items that can be tied and bundled).
ACCEPTABLE ITEMS:
• White Goods (Stoves, Hot Water Heaters, Dishwashers, Washers, Dryers)
• Small amounts of Construction Material tied and bundled in 4 foot lengths or in a 30-gallon container (50 LB Max)
• Furniture (Mattress, Box Springs, Couch)
• Swimming Pool Liners tied and bundled
• Branches tied and bundled in 4 foot sections
• Grass clippings bagged or containerized
• Open Paint Cans (Paint must be completely dry/hard)
UNACCEPTABLE ITEMS:
• Leaves
• Hazardous Liquids (Paints, Oils, Chemicals, etc.)
• Tires or any Vehicle Parts
• Batteries
• Dirt and Concrete
• Medical Waste of any kind
• Dead Animals
• Freon Units* (Refrigerators, Freezers, Air Conditioners, Dehumidifiers) *Freon items will only be picked up if a professional heating and air company has removed the Freon and tagged the item. If there is no visible tag, the item will not be picked up.
If you have items that aren't accepted, please check out portercountyrecycling.org to see if your items can possibly be recycled, or if it can be taken to a Household Hazardous Waste event. This website is full of invaluable information!
