Public invited to 2nd annual Footloose 5K June 27: Event features activities for all ages

Don't miss this year's Footloose 5K June 27!

Families, running enthusiasts and interested community members of all ages are invited to the second annual Footloose 5K Saturday, June 27 at Lakeland Park.

Hosted by the Burns Harbor Park Department, this 1980s-inspired family-friendly event features:
• Kids Fun Run (ages 1 to 11) sponsored by Bounce ‘N’ Around at 5 p.m.
• 5K race (ages 8 and up) starting at 5:30 p.m.
• Live music by DJ all day and Chicago’s 80s Xtreme cover band, the Breakfast Club, kicking off the after-party at 6 p.m.
• Fireworks sponsored by Phantom Fireworks beginning at dusk
• Refreshments provided by the Burns Harbor Fire Department and area vendors throughout the event as well as adult beverage garden sponsored by The Mill Bar & Grill

The event begins with race day packet pickup at 3:30 p.m. and last call ending at 9:45 p.m. Lakeland Park is located at 1200 Lakeland Park Dr. in Burns Harbor. An event tent has been added to this year’s Footloose 5K in case of inclement weather.

Park Board President and event director, Marcus Rogala encouraged Footloose 5K participants to wear their best 80s-inspired apparel. “This year’s Footloose 5K will be even bigger and more entertaining as we’re proud to have added several new features. Don’t miss the family fun and fitness event of the summer in Burns Harbor,” he said.

The 5K route runs through scenic Lakeland Park and the northeast section of town on mostly flat surfaces. Kids will participate in one lap around beautiful Harbor Lake in the park. Medals and awards will be handed out including top finishers in age/gender categories, best-dressed and Kids Fun Run finisher awards. Free poker and door prizes will also be available for added entertainment.

There is no admission to enter the park. Cost for the 5K is $30 without and $35 with event tech T-shirt if registered before race day. Kids Fun Run is free before race day and $10 on race day, and youth cotton event T-shirts are available for $8. All those interested are encouraged to sign up early.
