More than 150 kids of all ages celebrated the holidays at the 2nd Annual Santa Dash and visit from Santa event sponsored by the Burns Harbor Park Department on Saturday, December 12.
Santa Claus arrived at Lakeland Park on the Burns Harbor Fire Truck at 1 p.m. to hear the children’s Christmas wishes. Families also enjoyed horse and carriage rides, hot chocolate and cookies, and holiday crafts. Live music was provided by the 4H Children’s Choir, Nathan Rogala and Little Voices Choir.
More than 70 runners and walkers lined up at the start line for the Santa Dash, a 3K run/walk following Santa’s visit. The Dash benefited the Porter County Toys for Tots and the Westchester Neighbors Food Pantry by collecting donations in lieu of an entry fee. Thanks to the generosity of the participants, two truckloads of food was given to the food pantry as well as two truckloads toys for Toys for Tots.
The Park Department thanks the many volunteers for their support in making this free event a success.
