[ARCHIVED] Winter storm delays trash collection until Feb. 10

Trash Collection delayed for newsflash

Due to the weather forecast for the next two days, Republic Services of Northwest Indiana has announced they will be shutting down services for the safety of their employees and the communities they serve.

In normal inclement weather situations, Republic would need to shut down for one day and push everything back one day continuing service through Saturday. Since this storm is expected to last two days, Republic will shut down both Wednesday and Thursday this week. Due to Federal Hours of Service regulations, pushing service back two days would be in violation of those regulations.

So, for those in Burns Harbor, trash collection will occur next week on Thursday, February 10, 2022.  Republic understands that there will be two weeks of trash and/or recyclables and they will pick up all that is put out for collection.

Republic Services understands and apologizes for the inconvenience this may cause , however, having trucks on the streets during severe weather puts the safety of employees and those in affected communities at risk.

We hope you all stay safe and warm.
